Band 108

3GPP sets the comprehensive worldwide standards for the 5G protocol, serving as a critical reference point for the industry. Unless a specific “band” is explicitly listed in these standards, it is important to note that it simply does not exist in the formal structure. On Friday, September 29th, 2023, 3GPP officially published the standard for “Band 108,” marking an important milestone in the evolution of broadcast technologies. In summary, Band 108 is designated as receive-only (Broadcast) and operates within the frequency range of 470 MHz to 698 MHz. This frequency range encompasses all broadcast UHF channels utilized in the United States and in most other countries around the world. Additionally, Band 107 is recognized as a subset of Band 108, specifically designated for use by various countries, and there are ongoing discussions regarding the proposal of other sub-sets as the landscape continues to evolve.
