Global Momentum and Live Demonstrations at IBC

The excitement around 5G Broadcast continues to build, with important updates coming in from both global leaders and live demonstrations on the ground at IBC. Together, these milestones highlight how quickly the technology is moving from concept to reality.

At the recent IEEE meeting, Brazil’s Minister of Communications announced that the country is actively experimenting with 5G Broadcast. This marks an important step in Latin America’s exploration of next-generation broadcasting, adding Brazil to the growing list of nations preparing to unlock the benefits of one-to-many connectivity for public safety, education, and media delivery.

Meanwhile, in Amsterdam, XGN brought 5G Broadcast to life in a unique and highly visible way. By placing multiple screens across the RAI convention center and transmitting live signals directly from their booth, XGN demonstrated the resilience and efficiency of the technology in real-world conditions. The reception was seamless, underscoring 5G Broadcast’s potential for large-scale content delivery without the constraints of traditional cellular networks.

Adding to this momentum, Qualcomm has confirmed that 5G Broadcast–enabled smartphones will be commercially available starting in Q1 2028. This announcement marks a major turning point for the ecosystem, bridging years of development and trials with a clear path to consumer adoption.

With governments engaging, manufacturers committing, and live showcases proving the technology’s maturity, 5G Broadcast is no longer a distant promise—it’s a present reality rapidly expanding its footprint.
